Are you starting up a new business in the next few months and need a website designed for it – are you in possession of a website proposal and want us to provide you with a quote for it?
If so simply forward us the requirements (or ask us to forward you our questionnaire) and we can then evaluate and quote for your website.
The following is an example of the detail required to make an accurate quote for a new website:
The information below details the pages I would ideally like, although obviously I understand that it may not be possible to have them created in exactly the way I have detailed here. As such, should you feel an alternative solution would achieve the same effect, please do let me know.
As it’s a new business, money is tight so I’m looking for a very cost efficient solution – please do feel free to recommend ways to save funds, if you spot them.
Website Framework
This document lists all the pages required to be produced by the chosen website developer and contains details of the information/links to be included on each.
It is accepted that this is an initial, working document which will likely go through a number of amendments as a result of liaison between us and the website developer, ahead of development activity commencing, however this is the initial proposal from us.
Colours and fonts will be discussed, however the feel needs to be extremely high-end, very clean cut and sophisticated. Inspiration should be taken for the look and feel of the site from the likes of the guide websites provided. Should any pages need clarification, in terms of either functionality requirement or feel, these sites may be used for inspiration.
Page 1 (Landing Page)
Page ideally to fit onto the screen without the need to scroll down (above the fold).
Large section of scrolling imagery (which act as links to pages associated with the images displayed).
30-150 words of text.
A data capture box for users to input their name and email addresses in order to subscribe to updates from us with an associated tag (ie. subscribe here for updates from us, including invitations to exhibitions near you).
A quick-search box. This box should remain on all web pages throughout the website and should link through to a news page.
2-3 Break-out boxes which act as links to other pages within the website. These will be used to ‘advertise’ new collection releases from artists or exciting upcoming exhibitions. Boxes to contain:
- 1 image (taking up around half of the box)
- 30-40 words to summarise the page it is ‘advertising’
- A ‘click here to view’ link (just to make sure it’s clear it’s a working link)
A ‘like us on Facebook’ link/logo
Links (to stay visible on all web pages throughout the site):

Page 2 (About Us Page)
150-350 words of text.
Some images
Page 3 (News Page)
Some images.
1 title saying ‘Latest News’. Immediately beneath this, 4-6 clickable links which take the form of written titles of the articles they feed to or clickable images with 1-10 words of text associated with the image. The idea is that when a new ‘latest news’ story is uploaded, the oldest one drops out of view on this page and appears on the ‘News Archive’ page. These links should feed through to a ‘News Article’ page.
Sub Links:
News Archive – to be hidden in the first few weeks/months of the website’s existence
Page 4 (News Archive Page)
This page should not be live in the early stages of the website’s existence (until enough of an archive has been built so that it’s not obvious the company is so young because there’s hardly anything here).
Some images.
A List of links to older articles no longer displayed on the ‘News’ page. Each link should feed through to a ‘News Article’ page.
Page 5 (News Article Page)
Each news article should appear on a ‘News Article’ page which contains:
Some images.
2,000 words of text (with the title appearing larger than the body of the article)
A link to click through to another page within the website, probably an ‘Artist Specific’ page (not always required to appear on each and every ‘News Article’ page).
Page 6 (Artists/Artwork Page)
This is arguably THE most important page of the entire website… it needs to look incredible and be very straightforward to use. It’s the page from which users will research artists they’re interested in, view specific works AND purchase! It is also the page which new artists will visit and submit their work through.
A section of this page should have 3-9 panels which act as links under the title ‘featured artists’. These panels should contain an image with 1-4 words of text (ie. either an artist headshot or a sample of their work with their name appearing either layered over the top, or beneath/to the side of the image. They should each link through to a ‘Sample Artwork’ page.
30-350 words of text.
EITHER (neither of these should be visible on the website when it first launches as we will only be working with a very small number of artists in the early stages – namely, the ‘featured artists’):
- Some kind of scrollable list of links entitled ‘all artists’ which take the form of the names of artists which don’t sit within the ‘featured artists’ category, feeding through to an associated ‘Sample Artwork’ page; OR
- A link entitled ‘all artists’ which feeds through to a page full of links taking on the form of the names of artists which don’t sit within the ‘featured artists’ category. If this is to be the case, each link should feed through to an associated ‘Sample Artwork ’ page
Sub Links:
New Artist Applications
Exhibitions
Sample Artwork
All Artists – Should it appear (see above), link to remain hidden at site launch and to feed through to an ‘All Artists’ page (as above) which in turn would feed onto the ‘Sample Artwork’ pages.
Page 7 (New Artist Applications Page)
This page is where new artists will submit their details and samples of their work for us to consider them as an artist they will work with.
30-350 words of text.
A series of data capture boxes which ensure the user’s details are captured (details required include title, name, contact details and personal statement/summary of achievements/exhibitions to date.
The ability to upload a number of images of sample work easily, ideally with a few words able to be written as a description about each upload.
Page 8 (Exhibitions Page)
1,000 words of text.
Some images
3 break-out boxes which act as links to the ‘Invite Request’ page. They should take the form of an image and 1-10 words.
Data capture box with 30-150 words of text associated with this box (perhaps in a breakout box?) This Data Capture box should link to the same storage area as the data capture box on the ‘Landing Page’.
Page 9 (Invite Request Page)
30-350 words of text.
Data Capture boxes for name and email address, which links to the same storage area as the data capture box on the ‘Landing Page’
Some images.
Potential Page
This page may exist as a list of links to associated ‘Sample Artwork’ pages, however this list of links may be contained within the ‘Artists/Artwork’ page (initially hidden from view on the site).
A collection of links which take on the form of the names of non-featured’ artists. They should feed through to an associated ‘Sample Artwork’ page.
Page 10 (Sample Artwork Page)
Each and every piece of artwork displayed on the website will appear on a ‘Sample Artwork’ page. This is also the page from which artwork may be purchased.
Either a large title/banner of ‘Sample Artwork’ or 10-50 words. This is to make it very clear that the user isn’t viewing the entire collection of an artist’s work.
A large image of the work of art being viewed by the user.
10-30 words of text (Artist, price, size, medium etc.) to be displayed right next to the image.
An ‘Add to Basket’ link/button.
Beneath the artwork being displayed… a number of other artwork thumbnails should be shown, which, when clicked on will place the details/information about that work of art at the top of the page with associated information on that artwork next to it.

Page 13 (Apply for a Trade Account Page)
This page will be used by potential trade customers to apply for a trade account. It needs to primarily give the impression that many applications are made daily from galleries who wish to sell the art of artists represented by us. The details entered by users of the site here need to be captured so we can contact galleries who wish to know more about selling the artists’ work.
Data Capture boxes with associated tags:
- Title, Forename, Surname, Phone Number, Email Address.
- Company Name, Company Type, Company Address, Company Website, Relevant Notes.
Page 14 (Recruitment Page)
This page will be used to capture the details of potential employees, however it will also serve to ensure the company is viewed as a large institution which strives to find the best talent in the UK. All details entered here need to be data captured and stored so that we can contact candidates.
Some images.
Data Capture boxes with associated tags:
- Title, Forename, Surname, Phone Number, Email Address, Reference Code, Cover Letter.
- CV upload/attachment ability
Page 15 (Proceed to Checkout Page)
This page will be used to capture the required details of purchasers in order for them to secure the works of art they wish to buy and to have the piece delivered to them. As such, all details to this end should be captured on this page (financial, name, address etc.) The works of art being purchased are defined as those which have been added to the ‘basket’ earlier by the user when they were viewing them on the associated ‘Sample Artwork’ page. The pieces they are purchasing should be displayed so that they can remove them from the basket, should they so wish. This should be a very well thought-through page, in order that levels of trust are extremely high!
