Recently a client was approached by a Link Building company who talked to them on multiple occasions about improving their site, as we have built our client a search engine friendly and well optimised website that already has quite a few relevant / valuable links they were at a loss to recommend anything to improve but eventually persuaded the client he needed to tweak his website title. The conversation below is a result of a client being persuaded that they ‘needed’ urgently to update their website title.
Client: I know that the website has gained in ranking but O looked in to getting links as the final push is the hardest and chatted with a link company, this guy said that the site is fine and you need not get links from any one [delicious webdesign says: The fact they advise against getting links from anyone surely goes against everything you would learn about SEO and from a link builder seems an amazing thing to say. This is almost certainly a ploy to gain trust then they may start suggesting link building projects]
The link builder / SEO looked into the site and the main site at number 1 on Google and he came up this this for free of charge, do you think that he may have something here that we can benefit from
These are his finding below
In short, the set up needs to literally be straight to the point and really read ‘your main search term’
The ‘recommended’ new title was over Google’s recommended title length and featured the same words in a slightly different order, in short, a pointless recommendation.
Delicious Webdesign: It is your website so will change what you want but be interested to see the complete email from this ‘SEO’ / Link company.
Their ‘updated’ title exceeds the Google Webmaster guidelines for title length and will be too long to display in the Search engine results pages. So I advise doing nothing.
On reflection the site has gone from new to be ranked for
‘key search term’
google.co.uk 9th / 10th
yahoo 1st
bing 1st
within about 7 months which by any expectation is good, with the customised blog that we created you have created loads of new and interesting content that has helped this no doubt but ‘playing’ with your SEO could be dangerous.
I advise doing nothing but will be interested in seeing other suggestions that you come across and would like to see their full email about this.
