Today we had to lodge our first domain name complaint with Nominet due to a competitor buying a domain name similar to one we use and putting abusive images on it. Here is a summary of our complaint:
Having owned and run Delicious Webdesign using the domain https://www.delicious-webdesign.com/ we have noticed a competitor that started recently has now purchased and uploaded abusive / misleading / confusing content to a similar domain name to our own in an attempt to disrupt our business. He has only used this domain name to confuse and disrupt my business, he has never used the name delicious webdesign and already two clients have accidentally gone to the domain and been upset at what they saw.
In summary I own and run https://www.delicious-webdesign.com/ but a local (same village) competitor has purchased a domain that is very similar to mine with the only purpose of this website seemingly to confuse / mislead / disrupt by using my company name.
The website I am objecting to has now removed the offensive content but is now offering the website for sale, I feel that as this company which purport to be a website design company are registered in the same town and they have no reasonable business case for buying a website name that is closely resembling Delicious Webdesign and then attempting to offer it for sale I believe this to be immoral and illegal and trust Nominet will remove this domain as it could indicate to my current / future clients that I have gone out of business if they stumble across a website bearing my company name that says ‘for sale’.
It needs to be noted that he same company that is attempting to blackmail us with a domain name that they have purchased that is exactly the same as our main website name but with a different TLD has also stolen ex-client’s websites when they requested to move to another website design company (ourselves) and they achieved this as the register all domains in their own name which is recognised as bad business practise and has led to lengthy legal cases in the past.
