These are a couple of messages I sent a website owner recently that once asked us to do some SEO work on their site, the website has been slowly losing market share and their visitor numbers have been going down for over a year. What have they done to stop this slide ? What have they planned to keep the visitor numbers growing? What steps have they done to prepare / update their site for the future? the answer to those questions is nothing! Therefore the competition will continue to innovate and grown and steal their website position.
Here are the messages I have sent them:
Message 1
Hope everything is good with you and your business. I am just doing a one year review of your site, as we do for every business, and saw that the rankings snapshot I done for you when talking about your SEO previously has not improved for the search terms we selected.
Worryingly it has actually decreased in 2 search engines (Google and Yahoo) and only made a modest increase in one, obviously during our SEO projects we need to choose 5 – 10 search terms for your site to optimise, so this search term is only one but probably your most important, but would like to think that big increases could be achieved quite easily:
Message 2
Did you ever consider the site changes and / SEO offer below? I mention it as I was looking at rankings of [your sector] companies yesterday and noticed that you are still moving down or sideways along the rankings.
Unfortunately its been a couple of months since I sent those messages and only came across them again today as I was looking at another companies ranking and saw their rankings had fallen again in Google! What would we suggest to improve their rankings? A full SEO review, more content, adding a blog to the site and to encourage the site owner to become more active on Twitter, Facebook, LinkIn and on all social networking sites as well as specialist industry forums and blogs. Its probable that they will let their site ‘rot’ and wait until its rank slips to the second page before acting, this type of SEO is the equivalent of fire-fighting but pro-active SEO is much more efficient and profitable and that is why we practice it on our own clients sites.
